Valero Alamo Bowl Overview:
In its 15-year history, the Valero Alamo Bowl has developed a growing track record of capacity crowds and exciting games that feature two of the nation’s best college conferences, the Big 12 and the Big Ten. The success of the game has resulted in increased minimum payouts to the participating teams from $700,000 to $2.25 million.
After earning "most-watched bowl game in ESPN history" in both 2005 and 2006, the 2007 Valero Alamo Bowl lived up to its billing as over 4 million viewers tuned into the ESPN telecast and another 500,000 watched the re-broadcats. Since 1995, the Alamo Bowl has produced eight of the Top 20 most-watched bowl games in ESPN history including the #1 and #2 slots.
Since its inception in 1993, the Valero Alamo Bowl has hosted 1,075,753 spectators at 15 bowl games and three Big 12 Football Championships. Factoring in the out-of-town fans, the games have resulted in over $252 million direct economic impact on San Antonio and another $21 million in measurable media exposure from the national television broadcasts.
With a combined team payout this year of $3.85 million, the Valero Alamo Bowl has now contributed $48.3 million to higher education with $41.8 million in bowl team payouts and $6.5 million in Big 12 Championship team payouts in 15 years.
The bowl also continued its local scholarship program in 2007 as 26 graduating high school seniors were selected from 53 Bexar County high schools to split $78,000 in scholarships, bringing the seven-year total to $440,000.
Bowl Committee Overview:
As the Valero Alamo Bowl continues to grow in size and prestige, the bowl will continue to expand its reach and involve more of the local community. To this end, the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee was formed in 2002 to increase awareness of the bowl in the community.
The Valero Alamo Bowl Committee is a group of San Antonio’s dedicated business and civic leaders who work as the backbone of the Valero Alamo Bowl fundraising efforts and provide the leadership for the Valero Alamo Bowl’s annual festival of events. Members in good standing will receive consideration in the event any Board of Directors slots open up.
Persons interested in serving on the Valero Alamo Bowl Committee should call (210) 704-6388. The three official meetings for 2008 will be in late August, early October and mid-November.
Members who help the Valero Alamo Bowl fund raise will receive prizes and rewards. Purchases of game and event tickets, sponsorships, donations and/or in-kind contributions (i.e. printing, food, venues, supplies, auction/raffle items, etc.) and counted as fundraising. The value of these in-kind contributions will be determined by what the cost would be to the Alamo Bowl to purchase such goods and services.
Members are expected to attend as many of the scheduled Committee meetings each year as possible, volunteer their time to help one or more bowl events and have a fun time!

1. Team Prize: The Valero Alamo Bowl will divide the Committee into three teams. Each member of the winning team (i.e. the team who has raised the most money) who has attended at lease one (1) Committee meeting and raised at least $3,000 will receive a $75 restaurant gift certificate courtesy of Fleming's Steakhouse. The group leader from the winning team will receive a $150 Fleming's Steakhouse gift certificate. This contest deadline is Wednesday, November 26, 2008.
2. Top "New Money" Fund-Raisers: Each Committee member who raises $7,500 (cash and trade) in "new money" will receive one (1) entry into a drawing to receive two (2) round-trip tickets courtesy of American Airlines to any location they fly in the contiguous 48 states, Canada, Mexico or to the Caribbean.
Members will receive one (1) additional entry in the drawing for each $7,500 raised over the initial $7,500. Thus, someone who brings in $22,500 in "new money" will receive three (3) chances in the drawing. A second place winner will be drawn to receive their choice of an Apple Ipod Shuffle, a round of golf for two courtesy of SilverHorn Golf Club, a one night hotel stay at the Marriott or a one day car rental courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The third and fourth names drawn will receive the remaining prizes, respectively.
"New money" is defined as any dollars the bowl did not receive last year (i.e. the total dollars of a new sponsor or any increase in dollars of a 2007 sponsor). The contest deadline is Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Need not be present to win.
3. Most Sponsorships Sold: Any Committee member who sells at least three (3) sponsorships (i.e. number of companies spending at least $3,000 not including game tickets) will receive one (1) entry into a drawing to receive two (2) round-trip tickets courtesy of American Airlines to any location to which they fly in the contiguous 48 states, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.
Members will receive one (1) additional entry in the drawing for each sold sponsorship above the original three (3). Thus, someone who has five (5) sold sponsors on their target list that all spend over $3,000 will receive three (3) chances in the drawing. A second place winner will be drawn to receive their choice of a round of golf for two courtesy of SilverHorn Golf Club (valid any day), a one (1) day car rental courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, golf for two and an overnight hotel stay courtesy of Hyatt Regency Riverwalk. The third and fourth names drawn will receive the remaining prizes, respectively.
While the same Committee member cannot win both first place prizes of the airline vouchers from the "Top New Money Fundraiser" and "Most Sponsorships Sold" categories (or two prizes in one category), someone can win both second place prizes and a combination of first and other place prizes. This contest deadline is Wednesday, November 26, 2008.
4. The Suite Life: The bowl will again have a suite for this year's game as a prize for the Committee members who raise $10,000+ in "new money" or sell at least three sponsorships (new money or renewals) valued at $3,000 or higher. Members must have also attended at least one (1) Committee meeting to be eligible.
Each committee member will receive four (4) tickets to this suite which will include appetizers and soft drinks.
The tickets will be valid for the Committee member and their guests (non-transferable to anyone other than the Committee member). Thus, please accept these tickets only if you plan on attending the game and sitting in the suite. We will continue to award the suite tickets if other Committee members reach the new money or sold sponsor plateau.
Note: While any sponsors that are sold after November 26 will not count toward this year's fundraising prizes and contests, they give the member a head start on 2009 sales if they renew. Above prizes are as of July 22, 2008 and subject to change.
