Contribution to Higher Education

The Valero Alamo Bowl announced its 2010 scholarship winners at a special luncheon held at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse on December 15. Bowl Chairman Bill McCandless presented $4,000 scholarships to 31 graduating seniors, who were selected from San Antonio high schools.

Thirty students received the Valero Alamo Bowl Scholarship and one student was presented with the Bob Brincat Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created last year to honor the Valero Alamo Bowl’s past Chairman Bob Brincat who passed away in November 2009 after a courageous fight against lymphoma.

All of the scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, teacher recommendations, financial need, involvement in extracurricular activities and honors as well as a personal narrative. Several of the students also excelled in their respective sports.

“The Valero Alamo Bowl is honored to recognize the achievements earned by these seniors at today’s luncheon and on the field during this year’s game,” said McCandless. “These students should be commended for their superiority inside the classroom and their success in extra-curricular activities.”
