The Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association announced the nominees for the 2011 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team last week, with the Big 12 and Pac-12 Conferences boasting a combined 13 selections. The award recognizes college football student-athletes who excel on the field and in the community. As these selfless athletes take steps to better their communities, the Valero Alamo Bowl has been working toward the advancement of the San Antonio area for the past 19 years.
Since its inception in 1993, the Valero Alamo Bowl has been providing opportunities to local organizations, including the Elf Louise Christmas Project, the Kids Sports Network, the YMCA, Medina Children’s Home, and many more. The Valero Alamo Bowl could not make such a positive impact on the San Antonio community without the support and hard work of its volunteers. Throughout the season, our volunteers donate their time at various organizations such as the SAMMinistires Transitional Living and Learning Center, to cook and serve hot meals to over 150 adults and children in need, and Habitat for Humanity. This September, staff members and volunteers will gather and distribute donated food when the Valero Alamo Bowl and Pop Warner Football team up once again to coordinate a food drive for the San Antonio Food Bank.
The Valero Alamo Bowl will be hosting a volunteer orientation for those who wish to participate in this year’s events and community service projects. The introductory session,
which will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 9th
at the Alamodome, will also serve as a school supply drive benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters. Those attending the orientation are encouraged to bring school supplies which will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Please email Meghan Clancy at email@example.com
if you are interested in attending the volunteer orientation.
