Offensive Player of the Year Projections

The preseason all-conference teams and preseason player of the year picks have been released, and both conferences possess several candidates with strong resumes to support their case as preseason offensive player of the year. Do you agree with the media’s preseason selections for the Big 12 and Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year?

The Pac-12 candidates:

Marqise Lee, wide receiver, USC Trojans

  • Recipient of the Fred Biletnikoff Award (given out to the nation’s top receiver)
  • Named Lindy’s preseason Pac-12 Most Valuable Player
  • Second leading receiver in the country with 1,721 yards on 118 receptions and totaled 15 touchdowns
  • Had a 16-catch, 345-yard outburst against Arizona

 
Marcus Mariota, quarterback, Oregon Ducks

  • Named Lindy’s preseason Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year
  • Threw for 2,677 yards with 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions
  • Had a season-best 377 yard, six touchdown performance against Cal
  • Was the Ducks’ second leading rusher as well, adding 752 rushing yards and five touchdowns

 
Ka’Deem Carey, running back, Arizona Wildcats

  • Preseason first team Pac-12 by both Lindy’s and Phil Steele
  • Nation’s leading rusher in 2012 with 1,929 yards and 23 touchdowns
  • Had 36 receptions for 303 yards and a touchdown
  • Ran for 366 yards and five touchdowns against Colorado

 
Brett Hundley, quarterback, UCLA Bruins

  • Set school records for single-season passing yards (3,740) and total offense (4,095)
  • Scored 38 touchdowns on his way to Pac-12 honorable mention honors


The Big 12 candidates:

Lache Seastrunk, running back, Baylor

  • Named to the preseason first team by the Big 12 media, Lindy’s and Phil Steele
  • Selected as preseason Big 12 MVP by Lindy’s and preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the Big 12
  • Averaged 138 yard rushing average over the team’s final six games
  • Totaled 1,012 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 7.7 yards per carry

 
Josh Stewart, wide receiver, Oklahoma State Cowboys

  • Selected to the preseason first team by all three sources
  • Named preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year by Lindy’s
  • Posted 1,210 receiving yards and seven touchdowns from three different quarterbacks
  • Signature game was a 13 catch, 172 yard, two touchdown performance against West Virginia
  • Opens the season in Houston against Mississippi State before traveling to San Antonio to face UTSA

 
Damien Williams, running back, Oklahoma Sooners

  • Earned second team All-Big 12 honors in 2012
  • Led his team with 1,266 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns
  • Had four 100-yard rushing games
  • Named to the preseason first team by both Lindy’s and Steele

 
John Hubert, running back, Kansas State Wildcats

  • First team all-conference performer in 2012
  • Last season was his second consecutive with 900 rushing yards; also scored 15 touchdowns
  • Earned a preseason first team nod from the Big 12 media
