OKLAHOMA STATE, ARIZONA TO PLAY IN VALERO ALAMO BOWL

--Match-Up Features two of the Top 10 Passing Attacks in the Nation--

San Antonio, TX – Oklahoma State University and the University of Arizona have both accepted invitations today to play in the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl on Wednesday, December 29 at 8:15 p.m. CST in San Antonio’s 65,000-seat Alamodome.

“The Valero Alamo Bowl has a well-deserved reputation for high scoring, competitive games that go down to the wire and deliver top ESPN ratings,” said Bill McCandless, Valero Alamo Bowl Chairman. “This year’s game should be no different as Oklahoma State and Arizona have combined to average over 70 points and put up over 980 yards of total offense per game.”

Oklahoma State (10-2, 6-2 Big 12 and #14 in the BCS) finished tied for the Big 12 Conference South Division title, but lost in a tie-breaker to Oklahoma for a spot in the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship.  This is Oklahoma State’s third appearance in the Alamo Bowl, holding a 0-2 record.

The Cowboys are led by Big 12 Coach of the Year Mike Gundy and their #2 ranked passing offense is paced by junior quarterback Brandon Weeden and sophomore wide receiver Justin Blackmon who is Biletnikoff award finalist as the nation’s top receiver.

“We are very excited to return to the Valero Alamo Bowl,” said Oklahoma State Athletic Director Mike Holder. “It is a great city and the bowl has an excellent reputation. Oklahoma State has had the opportunity to play in two in Alamo Bowls and a Final Four in San Antonio and it has always been a favorite destination for our fans.”

“This bowl game will make for a great trip for our student-athletes and our fans,” said Gundy. “We are excited to represent the Big 12 against a quality Pac-10 opponent in Arizona. I would like to thank the Valero Alamo Bowl staff and volunteers for our invitation. We are excited to be heading to San Antonio.”

Arizona (7-5, 4-5 Pac-10) Wildcat Head Coach Mike Stoops is in his seventh year at the helm and led his squad to three straight bowl appearances including last year’s Holiday Bowl. Junior quarterback Nick Foles (an Austin Westlake graduate) directs the Arizona offense which is #1 in the Pac-10 and #9 in the nation in total passing yards.

"The UA is thrilled to be participating in the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl,” said Arizona Athletic Director Greg Byrne. “We know that with our strong Arizona connections to Texas, as well as a program like OSU on the other side, that there will be a lot of support from the University of Arizona family. It's going to be a great time for the team and all of us connected with the university.”

"We're honored to represent the university and the Pac-10 in the Valero Alamo Bowl,” said Stoops. “It's great to be the first league team to play in this first year of Alamo Bowl affiliation with the conference. Our players are excited to be playing in an outstanding bowl against a quality opponent like Oklahoma State.”

This year’s game will be the 18th installment of the Valero Alamo Bowl.  It will be the first meeting between Oklahoma State and Arizona on the football field since 1942. The all-time series is tied 3-3 and this bowl match-up will preview a home-and-home series between the two universities starting in Stillwater on September 10, 2010.

In its first two years (1993 and 1994), the Valero Alamo Bowl matched the Pac-10 against the Southwest Conference and then the game featured Big 12 vs. Big Ten match-ups for the next 15 years. This is the first year the Valero Alamo Bowl has matched the Pac-10 and Big 12 Conferences.

Ticket prices for the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl are $35-$105 and can be purchased online at www.alamobowl.com or through the university box offices. Tickets can also be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com.  Fans can also purchase tickets at the Alamodome Southwest Box Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
