Pigskin Preview Luncheon Set For August 24

TITLE OF EVENT:                 Rudy’s Bar-B-Q Pigskin Preview Luncheon

DESCRIPTION:                     Rudy’s Bar-B-Q Pigskin Preview marks the official kickoff of the 2011 college football season in San Antonio on Wednesday, August 24.

A crowd of more than 750 football fans will come to the Alamodome for a luncheon on the football field. In addition to previews of the Pac-12 and Big 12 conference football seasons, guests will also be treated to a special panel discussion featuring ESPN college football analysts Matt Millen and David Pollack, ESPN play-by-play announcer Carter Blackburn (a Kerrville Tivy graduate), ESPN Vice President of Programming Dave Brown and Valero Alamo Bowl President and CEO Derrick Fox.

Both Millen and Pollack were All-American defensive players in college and high NFL draft picks.

Millen was an All-American Defensive Tackle at Penn State before being selected by the Oakland Raiders in the 2nd Round of the 1980 NFL Draft. During his 12-year career in the NFL, Millen played for the Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins and won two Super Bowls with the Raiders and one with the 49ers and Redskins.

While at the University of Georgia, Pollack became only the second three-time All-American in school history. The Cincinnati Bengals selected the linebacker in the first round with 17th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

After a back injury ended his pro career, Pollack pursued a broadcasting career and is currently a college football analyst for ESPN’s College Gameday.

VISUALS:                              Millen, Pollack and other members of the panel will be available for media interviews from 11:15 a.m. until 11:40 a.m.

Before and after the luncheon, guests dressed in their business attire will test their kicking and passing skills in contests to win gift certificates courtesy of Rudy’s Bar-B-Q.

BENEFICIARY:                       Proceeds from the luncheon benefit the Valero Alamo Bowl’s scholarship program. This year the bowl will award a minimum of $120,000 split between graduating high school seniors from San Antonio bringing the 12-year scholarship total to $874,000.
