The Rudy’s Bar-B-Q Pigskin Preview on Thursday, September 5, marks the official kickoff of the 2013 college football season in San Antonio.
A crowd of more than 800 football fans is expected at the Alamodome for a luncheon on the football field. In addition to video previews of the
Pac-12 and Big 12 conference football seasons, guests will also be treated to a panel discussion led by KSAT Sports Director Greg Simmons featuring ESPN college football analyst Brock Huard, Valero Alamo Bowl President and CEO Derrick Fox and San Antonio Express-News college football beat writer Tim Griffin.
A former Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year, Brock Huard spent three years as the starting quarterback for the University of Washington. He set 20 football records during his college career and remains the Huskies’ all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
A third round pick in the 1999 NFL Draft, Brock enjoyed a six year NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts before heading to the broadcast booth.
Huard now serves as an analyst for the ESPN2 Saturday Primetime game and also spends time in-studio for ESPN’s College Football Live.
Before and after the luncheon, guests dressed in their business attire will test their kicking and passing skills in contests spread across the Alamodome turf to win prizes.
Proceeds from the luncheon benefit the Valero Alamo Bowl’s scholarship program. Last year the bowl passed the $1 million mark in scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors from San Antonio. This year’s 40 winners of a $5,000 scholarship will be announced at the Valero Alamo Bowl Scholarship Luncheon courtesy of Fleming's Steakhouse on Wednesday, December 18 and recognized on the field during the Valero Alamo Bowl on Monday, December 30.
Tickets are available through alamobowl.com for $60. Each ticket includes lunch, a commemorative Valero Alamo Bowl t-shirt courtesy of Nike and access to the interactive games on the field sponsored by American Airlines, H-E-B, News Radio 1200 WOAI, Rudy's Bar-B-Q, San Antonio Express-News, Ticket 760 Sports Radio and Valero.
