The College Football Playoff (CFP) will begin to take shape today when the first weekly CFP rankings are released at 6:30 p.m. CST. A committee of 11 members will work together to form a top 25 where the top four teams at the end of the regular season will play in two national semifinal games with the winners advancing to the National Championship Game.
After the top four teams are selected, the committee will then place the next best teams in the remaining CFP Bowls, which includes the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl and Peach Bowl this year.
The Valero Alamo Bowl will then have the first pick of teams from the Big 12 and Pac-12 after these six games. Based on current media projections #19 Oklahoma and #14 Arizona are the popular picks to represent the Big 12 and Pac-12 in this year’s Valero Alamo Bowl.
Jerry Palm (CBS Sports): #19 Oklahoma vs. #14 Arizona
Bill Bender (Sporting News): #10 TCU vs. #15 Arizona State
Phil Steele: #12 Baylor vs. #25 UCLA
Athlon Sports: #11 Kansas State vs. USC

Jason Kirk (SB Nation): #19 Oklahoma vs. #14 Arizona

The CFP Poll will be completely separate from the traditional AP Poll and Amway Coaches Poll and the committee will emphasize factors such as win-loss records, strength of schedule, conference championships, head-to-head results and results against common opponents when forming the rankings.
