Top area pickleball players to compete over 3-day weekend while raising money for scholarships.
The Valero Alamo Bowl and San Antonio Pickleball Association (SAPA) are hosting the fifth annual CommuniCare Classic at The Picklr Live Oak Friday, September 25 – Sunday, September 27.
This weekend’s tournament will feature over 350 players split between a three-day tournament and a PartyPICKLE round-robin style tournament.
All net proceeds from the event will be awarded to San Antonio area students through Valero Alamo Bowl and SAPA scholarship programs.
For the first time, the tournament will be held indoors at The Picklr Live Oak, a premier facility featuring 14 dedicated courts designed to deliver a high-quality playing experience.
“We’re excited to again partner with the Valero Alamo Bowl to take this tournament to next level while growing the sport of pickleball as well as our scholarship awards,” said Cindy Wadell, CommuniCare Classic Tournament Director. “Our first tournament helped fund six scholarships. With this year’s sold-out field the San Antonio Pickleball Association and Valero Alamo Bowl will combine to award over 25 scholarships to deserving students.”
Tournament Schedule
Friday, September 25
Men’s Singles: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+ divisions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Women’s Singles: 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 divisions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
PartyPICKLE (round-robin, co-ed): recreational, intermediate, and advanced divisions from 6 – 8 p.m.
Saturday, September 26
Women’s Doubles: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+ divisions from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Men’s Doubles: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+ divisions from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday, September 27
Mixed Doubles: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+ divisions from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
All three days will have competitive matches all day with the best players and biggest crowds gathering late afternoon. Saturday has the most players and the largest vendor show.
Valero Alamo Bowl representatives and CommuniCare Classic Tournament Director, Cindy Wadell will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Friday – Sunday.
