A record 421 pickleball players filled the 18 courts at Fairchild Park in San Antonio the last weekend in September for the fourth annual CommuniCare Classic Pickleball Tournament.
Hosted by the San Antonio Pickleball Association (SAPA) and the Valero Alamo Bowl this three-day event brought together players of all skill levels for spirited competition, community fun, and most importantly, raising scholarship dollars for local students.
The action kicked off Friday with singles play, followed by men’s and women’s doubles on Saturday, and mixed doubles on Sunday. Friday evening also featured the always-popular PartyPICKLE round robin, giving recreational and intermediate players a chance to join in the fun. All pickleballs used in competition were generously provided by Gearbox.
Competitors received commemorative t-shirts courtesy of The Kitchen Dink while H-E-B, Kiolbassa Smoked Meats, Mas+ by Messi, Phorm Energy, and Whataburger keep everyone fueled throughout the weekend. Fans added to the festival-like atmosphere as they cheered on players from the sidelines.
The CommuniCare Classic underscored the ability of sport to unite the community with 100% of net proceeds supporting local scholarships. Each serve, volley, and dink contributed to grow the game and support deserving youth.
Special thanks to all participants, sponsors, and vendors with extra recognition for CommuniCare as the title sponsor, along with Amegy Bank, Gold’s Gym, McGriff Insurance, ORTHO San Antonio, and Project Cowork.
