Downtown San Antonio’s Best: As Told by the Newest VAB Interns

Sergio Ramirez – Digital Media Coordinator

Sergio is a current student at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he will complete a degree in Digital Communication. Sergio loves going to the gym, taking pictures for his photography page, and spending time with friends and family. Also, according to him, he is an excellent dancer and karaoke singer. His go-to song is El Rey by Vicente Fernandez.

Sergio’s favorite part of the trip was when the group visited The Battle for Texas and learned the history behind the war for Texas. Sergio was impressed by the historical uniforms and weapons from battle along with the interactive displays. This is a great place to tour for some additional insight about the significance of the Alamo. The best part of the museum was the cannon pull; a unique opportunity to act as a soldier pulling a cannon uphill, and an excellent opportunity to showcase your own guns!

Lana Mark – Ticket Sales and Marketing Coordinator

Lana is a recent graduate from Oklahoma State University where she double majored in Marketing and Management with an emphasis in sports. Lana’s favorite hobbies include hammocking, attending concerts with friends, and exploring new destinations with family. Her most recent trip was to Shanghai, China.

The guided tour of LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio was Lana’s favorite part of the day! The San Antonio mini land display was an incredible model of the downtown area. This 1.5 million brick display included LEGO boats floating along the miniature River Walk and an interactive recreation of the Alamodome complete with moving players and working videoboards. It was a great opportunity to revisit childhood memories and she plans to return for one of their upcoming Adult Nights!

Lauren Wyatt – Media and Sports Information Coordinator

Lauren is a recent graduate from the University of Arizona. She majored in Communications and double minored in Sports Management and Information Science & eSociety. Lauren loves spending time hanging out with her friends and family and shopping at PetSmart with her puppy Marvin!

Lauren’s highlight from the downtown adventure was the City Sightseeing Hop-On-Hop-Off Double Decker Bus Tour! This bus tour is fun even on a hot day in Texas. Sitting on the upper deck allows you to feel a nice breeze and soak in the views with an informative, entertaining lesson, and occasional song from your driver/tour guide. One final piece of advice beware of low hanging branches. One of our interns had to learn that lesson the hard way!

Kiley Alexander – Event and Hospitality Coordinator

Kiley is a recent graduate from Illinois State University where she majored in Organizational and Leadership Communication. Every season Kiley loves to go snowboarding on the fresh powder. We don’t see much of that in Texas, but she plans to travel to the challenging Colorado slopes.

Kiley’s favorite part of the downtown adventure was Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks. The wax museum is a fun interactive place to see everyone’s favorite celebrities and snap a photo with Will Smith, Captain America, and many others. Kiley’s favorite part of the museum was the lower level displays. We won’t give any spoilers, but it is the place to be if you’re looking to create unforgettable memories!
