Beauty pageants, Whataburger, and stock shows aren’t usually mentioned in the same sentence, but these unique experiences are brought up when talking to Kelly Humphrey, the new Event Coordinator at the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Kelly is an all-out Texas girl and it was evident when she first pulled into the parking lot in her big white Chevy pickup. A month ago, Kelly graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Mass Communication. One of her most cherished memories was when she was riding a bike dressed up as a banana during the Homecoming Parade.
Even at a young age she does not lack experience as she served as treasurer of the Public Relations Student Society Association for a year as well as a community assistant for some of the biggest apartment complexes in Huntsville, TX. As a member of PRSSA she was voted as the “most organized” and “best officer”.
She has been volunteering for the Miss Texas Pageant for over 10 years! After working her way up, she now sells tickets to the event and is an assistant to high ranking executive producers. So far she has hit the ground running here at the bowl and is looking forward to continue building her professional experience.
This native Texan has been all around the state but San Antonio has stood out as one of the most inviting and unique due to its “small town Texas feel” while still boasting the entertainment opportunities of a large city.
When not busy building up her resume, Kelly can be found riding her bike around town, strategizing to become the next winner of the TV show Big Brother, or hanging out with her older sister. When asked about her favorite place to eat in San Antonio, the answer was simple….Whataburger!
By the time the internship with the bowl is done she will have plenty of the experience she wants, as well as a better feel for the city she now calls home. If you see her around don’t be shy to introduce yourself, she will greet you with a warm Texas welcome!
