For decades, San Antonio has been defined by community, culture, and hospitality. Now the city is preparing for a new era. A reimagined Sports & Entertainment District will bring fresh development, vibrant public spaces, and exciting new reasons to gather downtown.
The first phase of the district features a new Spurs Arena rising in the shadows of the Alamodome and Tower of the Americas. This venue will draw major concerts, national events, and world-class entertainment to the heart of the city. Anchoring a walkable, year-round destination, the district will complete the long-term vision for Hemisfair.
More than 25 acres of new mixed-use development will add restaurants, shops, hotels, and family-friendly green spaces, creating a lively connection between the convention center, the historic Alamo area, and the growing residential neighborhoods surrounding downtown.
The Alamodome will receive important upgrades to ensure it remains a premier venue to continue to attract major sporting events, concerts, and celebrations such as the Valero Alamo Bowl. Visitors will enjoy improved access, enhanced amenities, and a more seamless experience across the entire district.
Nearby, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will expand and new hotels will open supporting the city’s increasing demand for meetings and tourism. These investments will help San Antonio compete for larger conventions and high-profile events while strengthening the hospitality economy that welcomes millions each year.
Ultimately, the Sports & Entertainment District is about more than buildings. It represents a bold vision for a downtown that showcases the charm, culture, and warmth San Antonio is known for — a place where visitors and residents can stroll, dine, celebrate, and experience the very best of our unique city.
Whether you’re here for the Valero Alamo Bowl or returning for future adventures, the next chapter of downtown San Antonio will offer even more reasons to come back.
