Shining Star ENERGY Youth Football Clinic – Thank You!

Over 350 campers stormed the Alamodome’s turf for the Shining Star ENERGY Youth Football Clinic on July 22. Coaches from the University of Incarnate Word, Trinity University, and UTSA came prepared with a full slate of drills and exercises. Coaches were met by an enthusiastic group ranging from 5 to 14 years old that could not wait to jump into the action.

Participants had the chance to try their hand at every position on offense and defense, as well as special teams. From learning how to throw passes as quarterback to perfecting proper tackling technique as linebackers, campers were determined to learn the game and have a fun time doing it. Kids also got the chance to participate in NFL combine style events such as the 40-yard dash and vertical jump. A sense of competition filled the dome as participants’ fought to take home the Shining Star award as top camper from their group.

Staff members from Gatorade were on hand to pass out refreshments and keep the kids up and running. As you can imagine, one works up an appetite after a full morning of practice. Thankfully each participant was treated to a meal courtesy of Whataburger following the clinic, and took home a Gatorade towel and water bottle.

Since its inception the Shining Star ENERGY Youth Football Clinic has proven to be a huge success with the community. A big part of that success has been Sondra Grohman of Shining Star ENERGY, who has been a wonderful partner and friend in serving as the clinic’s title sponsor. Registration numbers are growing every year, and we hope to welcome back more young football fans next summer.
