Team Arrivals

Bowl week began on Saturday with the arrival of the #15 Oregon Ducks. As the below video shows, the players and coaches were greeted with fanfare and mariachis:

Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich, Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year DeForest Buckner and Pac-12’s  leading rusher Royce Freeman talked with the media about their expectations of their highly anticipated match-up with TCU.

“We’re playing in a great bowl game against some high-powered competition,” said Freeman. The Ducks practiced Sunday and will head to the San Antonio Spurs game tonight.

Oregon’s last game in San Antonio was a 30-7 win vs. Texas in the 2013 Valero Alamo Bowl, former Texas Head Coach Mack Brown’s final game. Brown is an ESPN analyst for this year’s Valero Alamo Bowl.

TCU will arrive in San Antonio Monday afternoon and hit the practice field on Tuesday. The Horned Frogs have never played in the Valero Alamo Bowl with their only San Antonio games being against Trinity. All-time they have a 10-1-1 mark against Trinity in San Antonio with their last game being a 47-0 win in 1952.

Oregon and TCU averaged a total of almost 85 combined points this season (Oregon – 43.2, TCU – 41.7). The most combined points scored in Alamo Bowl history is 123 (Baylor vs. Washington, 2011).
