Employee Spotlight- Matalee Fangman

Born and raised in the panhandle of Texas, Matalee Fangman is bringing all the southern charm and hospitality to her role as Events Coordinator with the Valero Alamo Bowl.

After graduating from high school in Dumas, she made the two-and-a-half-hour drive south to Lubbock, Texas so she could attend Texas Tech University. She found her home within the College of Media and Communication and graduated with a degree in public relations.

From serving as a student ambassador to interning with an event management company, Matalee took advantage of her time in college and has used her skills to make sure all Valero Alamo Bowl events go off without a hitch.

We sat down with Matalee and asked her a few questions about her move to Alamo City.

What path led you to this job?

“My sophomore year I saw the posting and knew it was something I wanted to pursue when I graduated. The position posted again my senior year and I reached out to Arlington Sports Commission Executive Director Matt Wilson. I met Matt when he was a guest speaker at a leadership dinner at Tech. Matt started his career at the Valero Alamo Bowl and encouraged me to apply since the job was so comprehensive and meaningful.”

How are you liking San Antonio?

“Growing up in a small town and being in Lubbock the past few years, San Antonio has been a big jump for me! I’ve loved every bit of it as everyone in the city is so welcoming. There is never a boring weekend, and I haven’t even come close to the end of my list of restaurants to try. My hair, on the other hand, hasn’t been a fan of the humidity.”

What has been your favorite part about working with the Valero Alamo Bowl?

“I love the fast-paced environment. You’re always on your toes and preparing for the next thrilling event. Also, all the staff make it feel like a home away from home. Being a part of such a caring team of people working toward a common goal makes this experience so much more special.”

What are you most excited for in regard to game day?

“I’ve been looking forward to game day since before I even started! We’ve been working so hard for the game and all of the events leading up to it. I can’t wait to see our work come to life. I love sports, so just being a part of the energy is something I’ll never forget.”

You’ve been in San Antonio for a little over two months now. Do you have any go-to spots yet?

“The Pearl, Chicken N Pickle, Howl at the Moon and The Shops at La Cantera”
