PNC Pigskin Preview Kicks Off Bowl Calendar

The Valero Alamo Bowl’s 33rd season officially kicks off Wednesday, August 27, with the PNC Pigskin Preview at the Alamodome.

Football fans, local business leaders, and Valero Alamo Bowl scholarship recipients will gather on the Alamodome’s brand-new turf to enjoy Rudy’s Bar-B-Q, H-E-B Creamy Creations Ice Cream, and Tiff’s Treats while watching highlight videos of this year’s top college football stars and teams.

The program features special guest Fozzy Whittaker, ESPN college football analyst and former Texas Longhorn standout. Guests will hear insider stories and expert insights from Whittaker as he breaks down the upcoming season.

A Houston native, Whittaker starred at Pearland High School, graduating as the sixth-leading rusher in Texas 5A history with 5,717 yards and 64 touchdowns. At the University of Texas (2008–2011), he became a versatile playmaker at running back, receiver, and return specialist, finishing with more than 2,000 all-purpose yards and 15 touchdowns.

He went on to a six-year NFL career with the Cardinals, Chargers, Browns, and Panthers, highlighted by a Super Bowl 50 appearance with Carolina. After retiring, Whittaker joined the Longhorn Network in 2019 and now appears on ESPN’s national college football coverage.

Along with the program, attendees can compete in interactive turf activities, including field goal kicking, passing challenges, Giant Yard Pong, Fowling, and more for prizes.
