H-E-B Scholarship Awards Luncheon

12:30 p.m. – The 75 local high school winners of Valero Alamo Bowl scholarships were announced and recognized at this luncheon.  When combined with Bowl’s college program, $1 million will be awarded which is again anticipated to be the largest local scholarship giving among all the Bowls.

Thursday, December 26

Field Painting
Alamodome

10:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Media parking in Lot A on the south-side of the Alamodome. Please queue at the guard shack on the south loading dock and a Valero Alamo Bowl escort will take you to the field.

Utah Practice availability – Noon
Trinity University (One Trinity Place, south campus entrance)
Media can park at the Bell Center (by right field of the baseball field) and  walk between the Bell Center and the baseball field to wait at the 50 yard line of visiting team sideline.

Noon: There will be a 15-minute photo/video period at the end of practice followed by post-practice interviews with head coach Kyle Whittingham and select players.

Utah: SeaWorld San Antonio Media Day
10500 Sea World Drive (media, enter the park through the employee entrance off of Military Drive West at Gate 4)

2 p.m. –  Select players to interact with bottlenose dolphins. Then at 2:45 p.m., players will be outfitted with GoPro cameras for exclusive ride time on the Steel Eel.

Take Highway 281 North toward the airport. Exit at the Hildebrand exit and go through the stoplight and stay on the access road. Their holiday entrance is off the northbound access ramp before you get back on 281.

Utah Practice Availability

Trinity University (1 Trinity Place, south campus entrance off access road)
10:50 a.m. 15-minute observation and photo/video period. Media can park at the Bell Center (by right field of the baseball field) and walk between the Bell Center and the baseball field to wait at the 50-yard line of visiting team sideline.

Utah will be hosting children from Boysville, a San Antonio youth shelter, after practice. Players will eat lunch and interact with youth. There is no media availability, but the Valero Alamo Bowl will make select photos and video approved for release by Boysville available upon request.

Everyone accessing the field will need an escort and need to enter the Alamodome from the east entrance.

Noon – This 1,100-person event features head coaches and captains from both schools speaking at the head table along with ESPN talent. The rest of the team along with cheerleaders and the band give this event a game day feel. Media seating for first 20 requests at the Media Center will be provided tickets. Others will be filled as space allows. There is a mult-box in back of the room to capture sound.

Tuesday, December 31

2019 Valero Alamo Bowl
Alamodome
6:35 p.m. CST – Utah vs. Texas

With the Alamodome’s clear bag policy, all media need to have a credential or be on our pass list to enter with a bag or equipment (please scan through at NE and SE corners). Additionally, all media must enter the Alamodome’s east entrance (50-yard line along the train tracks) which opens at 2:30 p.m.

If you need earlier entrance into the Alamodome, please make arrangements with Valero Alamo Bowl Media Coordinator Lauren Wyatt (928-257-8151). Everyone entering the building needs to receive a frequency check at the East entrance and photographers need to sign out a vest from the photo workroom (50 yard line, field level on the east side).

Post-Game Press Conference – Head coaches and select players. This room is located 20 yards down the hall from Visitor’s Locker Room. Losing team at dais first followed by winning team. Audio from losing piped into press box and winning team press conference will broadcast throughout the Alamodome on in-stadium TVs and video walls.

The Alamodome will stay open for fans until midnight with the North plaza hosting food trucks, a DJ and an excellent view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks at the Tower of Americas.

Media Hotel Room Rates

Room rates for the Valero Alamo Bowl media are $150 per night plus tax, which includes Internet access in the sleeping rooms, lobby, and restaurants. These rates are only valid from December 26 to January 2. Please note that the media headquarters and press conferences will take place in the Alamodome.

All media rooms must be booked through the credential system on the bowl’s website. The Marriott Rivercenter will not accept room reservations directly from media members. Please note that the bowl will not assign rooms until December 20, so the hotel will not have a record of your name until after that date.

The Marriott Rivercenter has onsite self parking at $37+tax per night. The adjoining Convention Center parking garage (850 E. Commerce with an entrance at Market at Bowie) has a daily $11 rate without in/out privileges and probable market pricing on game day.

*Please keep in mind that the New Year’s Eve game date and surrounding events downtown will affect hotel prices. The Bowl’s room rates will only be available by booking through the credential system.

Game Day Information

Game Day Telephones/Internet Access

Complimentary WiFi is available is the press box and Wi-Fi and ethernet is available in the photo workroom. Media outlets requiring telephone and/or internet services for exclusive use must order directly from the Alamodome at (210) 207-3629 at least two weeks prior to game day.

Valero Alamo Bowl Outstanding Players
The Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Players for the Valero Alamo Bowl will be named through online media voting.
Visit alamo.statbroadcast.com during the fourth quarter, then click on the link on the right-hand side to place your vote.

Alamodome Media Elevators
The Media Entrance (and Media Will Call) is located in the middle of the east side of Alamodome at the East Plaza Entrance. A stairwell exists to go down from the Plaza Level to the post-game press conferences, locker rooms and southeast field entrance. The stairs go up to the Press Box where there is a private internal set of stairs going to the broadcast and coaching booths. The East Plaza Entrance also has an elevator that goes between field level 1, plaza level 2, mezzanine/press box level 3, club/broadcast booths level 4 and upper level 5.

Post-Game Field Access
The quickest way to get to the field and locker rooms from the press box is via an internal stairwell that is adjacent to the East elevators. Directional signage will be posted. Media can also access the field and the post-game interview room by taking the Alamodome East elevators outside the press box to level 1, making a left and following directional signage.

Post-Game Interviews
Head coaches and select players will be available to the media following the conclusion of the game. A formal interview room will be clearly marked and located down the hall from the visiting team’s locker room. The losing team will be at the dais first followed by winning team. Audio will be piped into press box and quotes will be provided. Admission to each school’s locker room will be granted in accordance with each school’s post-game interview policy.

ESPN/Valero Alamo Bowl TV Station Policy

  • Television stations will be allowed to film from the sidelines during the game. However, the Valero Alamo Bowl’s contract with ESPN prohibits the use of game highlights on local newscasts prior to the completion of the game.
  • Television stand-up reporters will not be permitted on the sideline during the game. All reporters will be seated in the press box. With five (5) minutes remaining in the game, media will be allowed access to the field.
  • Beginning a half-hour prior to kickoff until ESPN is off the air, there will be absolutely no live telecasts or transmissions from inside the Alamodome. Live shots can be originated at any time from outside the Alamodome.
  • Microwave transmissions are not permitted within the Alamodome. All satellite dishes and/or ENG trucks must be positioned outside the Alamodome in the designated area located southwest of the building.

Parking and Media Shuttle
Media Shuttle Information

A limited number of Alamodome parking passes for media covering the Valero Alamo Bowl are available. Media, especially those staying in the media hotel, are urged to shuttle to the Alamodome.  Golf carts go from between the Media sign in front of the Convention Center (across from the Marriott Rivercenter) to the Alamodome’s east entrance from 2 – 5:30 p.m. on game day as well as post-game.  It is also a short 10 minute walk from the Marriott Rivercenter to the Alamodome.

Parking space for TV ENG trucks at the Alamodome, located in the southwest corner of the parking lot, is extremely limited. Please contact Jason Bippert of the Alamodome (210-207-3629 or jason.bippert@sanatonio.gov) as soon as possible concerning a parking location and specific needs.

San Antonio Airport to Marriott Rivercenter (Media Hotel)
101 Bowie St. • 14 minutes
Take Highway 281 South that will turn into Interstate Highway 37 South heading toward Corpus Christi. Exit at the Commerce Street/The Alamo exit and keep right to merge onto E. Commerce. Continue west on Commerce and the destination will be on the right.

San Antonio Airport to Alamodome
100 Montana St. • 14 minutes
Take Highway 281 South, which will turn into Interstate Highway 37 South heading toward Corpus Christi. Exit at the Cesar Chavez exit and take a left at the turnaround under the bridge and head back north on the Cesar Chavez access road. Turn right into Lot A, the southside entrance of the Alamodome just past the marquee.

Media Hotel to University of Incarnate Word
4301 Broadway • 9 minutes
Take Highway 281 North toward the airport. Exit at the Hildebrand exit (3 miles). The campus is on the corner of Hildebrand and Broadway. See the Media Center for updated information on the best entrance to access the football stadium.

Media Hotel to Trinity University
1 Trinity Place • 8 minutes
Take Highway 281 North toward the airport. Exit St. Mary’s/Mulberry. Continue on frontage road to Stadium Drive. Stadium Drive will take you over Highway 281. Enter Trinity University at S. Campus Drive. There is ample parking in front of the Bell Center. The football field is behind the Bell Center.
